give me Grace, I pray

while my DBA report is in the throes of birth pains, somewhere else far yet near is also moving through the momentous tunnel of dimension and time into a fresh new life...

God, I pray for strength to the mother and father,
I pray for your safe delivery of this precious bundle of new life,
that You have chosen to give to us,
to love, grow, cherish...
and be the reflection of all that we are now, tomorrow.
Amen.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prayer is answered when you welcome everything.
Loss fertilizes the ground for gain.
Everything that comes to you is a portion of the answer to that prayer.
Bring your prayers to the Prayer Chest, my son, and all
that you ask shall be answered one by one... (The Prayer Chest, 2007)

adrenalin rush at Mitsubishi car fest!

Sat yesterday, mama & papa decided on a whim to check out cars in Auto City... and maybe get a bite (have had lunch) at Swenson's (mama salivating over their BBQ/honey roasted chicken). And lo and behold, we stumbled into Mitsubishi's car fest! :) the best part was they came up with a Dacca rally trek at the back equipped with rally & 4WD instructors (not drivers mine you!!). here is a pic with Mr Kong (5x rally champion) and our Mitsubishi rep, Max... see the helmet in mama's hand? well yes, we had to don on helmets to go on a couple (yes, 2!) spins with Mr Kong in the mock Dacca rally. And mama meant spins, literally!! first time on the Pajero, mama sat shotgun. Second time on their 3.2 Triton, mama let papa have a go la... :)

It was definitely the best car try for us haha! we had the opportunity also to experience 4WD treks on Triton & Pajero, and test drove all their cars along the Prai road around AC... 2.5 Triton, Pajero, Grandis... ya, we'll see if we'll be convinced enough to get a 4WD :) definitely was interesting... especially when driving up a 50 deg side incline hahaho!! hwhaooo... the fest was only for the weekend (almost went over for another spin this afternoon, but we curbed it in time and went for another different excitement instead ;p )

...and yes, mama had a Swenson's roasted honey chicken after that :)

happy Birthday lo Ma Chi.. mmuak!

early celebration on 12/06 before ah ma with kong kong go to Spore for a coupla mths to visit Ting-ku ku, Karen-kim & baby :)

What to do when you are trapped in a lift?

got this from a friend... good to refer in case:

First - Quickly press all the different levels of buttons in the lift. When the emergency electricity supply is being activated, it will stop the lift from falling further.
Second - Hold on tight to the handle (if there is any).. It is to support your position and prevent you from falling or getting hurt when you lost your balance.
Third - Lean your back and head against the wall forming a straight line. Leaning against the wall is to use it as a support for your back/spine as protection.
Fourth - Bend your knees Ligament is a flexible, connective tissue. Thus, the impact of fractured bones will be minimised during fall.

DBA consultation report...

deng deng deng... rev1 up and out to Prof! :):) draft for 4 chapters done, 1 more to go. On track!

OMG.. yesteryears pic!

thanks Hua for sharing this, I must save this here for gens to come and gawk at :):) I should say this pic was taken during our Form Six in SM CHung Hwa Kota Bharu, so it would be circa 1993. almost 17 yrs ago, wow! time flies, but you know what buddy... our bond will remain forever. you're my true BFF.. huggggss!!

healthy lifestyle

1. Exercise (raise HB +30% for 30mins at least 3x a wk)
2. Lower stress
3. Eat healthy diet (follow food pyramid)
4. Sleep at least 7 hours a day (though am sure too much is also not healthy)
5. Regular sex (safe, healthy, normal, and with a consenting partner)

...am sure there are more to the healthy living mantra... like do yoga, meditation, qigong etc... am starting with these 5 first :)

bla bla bla

papa is bored... with the fact that we have not gone out for any holidays this yr besides Krabi and revisit to Vientiane. funny thing is mama is feeling exactly the opposite. just contented to stay home and at most, cuti2 malaysia :) the krabi and vientiane trips were also after much pestering from papa, both times mama lugged along the laptop though mama did enjoy the trips also...

just now papa whined again... haizz.. didnt go anywhere hor this yr. should be going somewhere this long wkend... poor papa. mama is beginning to feel like a wet blanket for him. to be honest, if mama wanna go somewhere to "let my hair down" ... somewhere to dive would be it! like similan or even maldives or... whatever. bali. then again that wouldn't be what papa likes (he doesn't enjoy diving as much as mama does)...

so okok... we'll go hiking tomorrow morning (...if no rain :p)

sugar Rush today... man.. wssup?

woke up today normal and all... then a little after lunch started craving to eat something (after lunch!). managed to hold on until around 4pm (cheated by diverting attn towards a hair trim heh heh.. which btw am fully satisfied and papa's been teasing endlessly about mama looking like a fifth former.. yuk... wink wink* :p ). after which mama just let go and started with a cup of sweet corns (there is this stall in SP utara behind the pink yawata mall that sells amazingly delicious sweet corns) then moved on to 2 large pcs of yummmieee oh-kuih (yam kuih).

took a break (or rather forced to since in the car driving back home).

soon as got home... couldn't wait to finish putting things away.. the normal stuffs and showered and back out for dinner. plan was to go catch the follow-up Twilight at Gurney with a Gelatissimo treat but mama was so darn hungry (really craving until mama felt almost like biting papa already!) so we changed to the nearer QMall. Abandoned the long queue at GSC at a glance and trotted promptly to Kim Gary donwstairs for dinner (almost fainting by then). Cleared off 2 sets of egg sandwiches in mama's record-breaking 3 mins. But then somehow the fu-yong rice was not up to taste and only finished half. Told papa had to go get Haagan-Dazs for dessert (since no Gelatissimo there)... so rushed for the banana split (btw found out here is about rm7 more expensive than in Krabi) AND a scoop of strawberry-cheese...

finally done. am so bloated now, still after 3hrs hahaha... never mind, at last am satisfied :)

timeout in planning2

so we made it up to Cameron (again!!) last wkend :) It was a spontaneous trip. We piled into 2 cars and plan was swaying between makan2 in Ipoh and night safari in Taiping... or overnight in Ipoh... and then when we got to Fri night, ah ma and mama just said... weather was not too bad so why not! and up we went to the cupboards and packed in 6 jackets and 2 cardigans and as many neck scarfs (for Min yee-yee) into 2 handcarries and wha-la... the next day we were all ready to head on to the Highlands if we wanted. The weather was indeed not bad up there. Drizzle most times but the type that we cud do without umbrellas. And it was marvelously cooling, 16-19C range. as usual spent some time in the morning at the Sg Palas tea plantation, beautiful with the mist and all... and the tea leaves were all so green and polished from the drizzle that it made the rolling hilly plantation looked so like comfy green sponges. what an eye-balm!

this long wkend will stay home.. there is someone special's birthday :p

one Itch gone...

hee hee... finally did what I itched very very very much to do some mths back: Happy Safari Mobile is now home and safely tugged in together with the other toys :)

no Regrets

while reading in Gurney Dome past Sat night (whiling time away waiting for The Fourth Kind movie), mama came upon this that mama absolutely has to share! It's an adaptation from Mark Twain and it goes something like this:

In twenty years time, we will think about the things we did not do rather than the things we did.

Mama's philosophy of life is along similar (but far shorter) lines. No regrets!

timeout in planning...

while keeping in mind of our consultation report datelines (tick tock tick tock...), mama & papa are debating what to do during the next long weekend (27-29 Nov)... there is a trip to cameron a wkend before with ah ma & kong kong & seku-kong+fam & si-ee-po+teow kong so we are tempted to follow the original plan to spend time together up there. if like this then most likely mama & papa will stay home during the long wkend as really need to jump start the reports! and not forgetting liz's birthday is on 28 Nov (twice mama missed the time to go present hunting this wkend urgh!!) ... hmm...

midnight hello...

it's 8 mins past sun midnight.. meaning less than 8hrs to go to work but mama can't help but feel the need to pen something down here. it's been ages since mama last came in. mama really misses this haven. it's mama's special communion place with baby, a place mama set up to connect with baby in total honesty, and in peace.

lots have been happening. foremost is mama's job which has gone 5x more hectic. well it's a good busi-ness (it'd be great if mama could also stretch time by 5x too!). but same time there has been lots of quality time spent with family members. couple wkends back reserved time with Nin-Ee with hubby Peter who came visiting from Melb and to celebrate their wedding dinner with us.

mama and papa also ensure we both had time together to unwind after busy wkdays (where sometimes we hardly exhanged 3 tots a day!) - our most fav (and easiest) timeout activity would be going to the movies (the surrogates, pandorum, the time traveller's wife, the fourth kind... and looking forwards to..whatelse.. 2012!!). and as much as possible keeping in touch with keh pa/ma + liz + helen (which fortunately yesterday managed to meet up for dinner at Pg Times Sq Swenson - and feeling just how amazingly time flies for babies! liz looks so much taller, matured and much much more cohesive of her environment.. and she's learned to wave bye bye too with her patented unique sly smile of hers :P)..

and of course baby... no time past without mama & papa always thinking about you. Ting-kuku is expecting a baby very very soon. So while shopping for new baby, mama cudnt help but also got us a Baby Bjorn Spirit baby-carrier. black&white :) and the best part is mama is now a member of MotherCare so shopping for baby and baby's friends are definitely much more exciting now haha! then keh ma intro someone special to mama & papa some wks back and we are listening to some of his advises to speed things up a bit. hopefully it works :)

mama & papa always think of you.. we miss you a lot, and looking forward to seeing you sooooooon! smooooch*

lazy weekend came and gone

deepavali came and went. this is the last long lazy weekend for mama and papa before we have to get serious with our respective consultation papers to submit in dec.

this has also been a weekend of newsies. we both enjoyed our usual night movies at gurney on fri (this time watched pandorum starring mama's fav actor - dennis quaid), sweated out in a little plant farm in greenlane to bring back 3 pots of money plants and 1 pretty thi-chang on sat morning, spent the night in BM stuffed with delicious jackfruits from tukun foothill, seafood at the tambun floating restaurant with almost everyone that mama cared to spend time with, and a supper of nonya kuih and pek-kong-cheng's famous midnight wan-than-mee, then went back to pek-kong-cheng with the same gang + seku-kong and family the next morning for breakfast with garfield eyes but working stomachs (and so memorable times at the old quaint square), came back to the island before lunch and crashed on the couch until time to chill out at ferringhi's sunset bistro for dinner (supposedly keh-mak and fam to join but she'd to continue chewing her excel macros haha!) and late night grocery shopping at QMall JJ where papa actually bought a discounted roasted whole chicken (rm4! vs mama think rm13 if coming from ayamas) for supper (again!), then back up and out again before 7.30am today for a hike up to no 5 from youth park with keh mak and keh pa AND liz and helen (!!). very pretty trail, somewhere mama and papa will surely go back. much nearer and definitely so much less effort to go get a stunning view of tj tokong. needless to say after a heavy gurney white bah-kut-teh brunch with them, papa and mama came back and crashed on the couch again until dinner time hahah!! went to jetty's hai nan for dinner with nai-nai and kong-kong... and now... chilling out with hitz fm on the home theater, clearing emails for tomorrow work and pretending to clean up the past 3 trips' photos (but ended up mumbling here again) :)

Stokke gone!

aaaaaaaaAAAAAAAHHHH!

ok ok so mama is being melodramatic. this evening while taking an after-dinner stroll on Gurney family floor (just me naming it that way but i think it's the 4th floor where MPH, Laura Ashley, MJ Home, Kim Gary and all the baby shops are) and didnt see the red Stokke at Mother's Care anymore! the shop attendant - who is also waiting impatiently for me to be preggie - told me that they've returned Stokke prods to their KL HQ. we can order to Pg... but mama suppose then they'll charge for transportation fee maybe haizzz.... same goes for Quiny Buzz... aiyo! it is mama's hobby to window shop these stuffs when in gurney... so WAS now :(

nvm, we shall order!

Can't wait to see her again! and Peter too, for the first time :)

--

hmm just finished work for the day... feeling a little hungry. But it's almost 40mins past midnight, it's a good way to keep on losing weight haha. ok, mama will go brush teeth and go to sleep now. Got a 7.30am meeting later.

back to workouts... cont (10/4)

so we didn't end up in Pg Hill yesterday as planned. it was raining cats and dogs ever since the night before until almost 8.30am so mama text to the friend and cancelled it, and went promptly back to a delicious sleep (always so when you hear the pit-pattering of rain outside). but then mama and papa started feeling guilty towards the afternoon as the overnight rain had left the day clear with a lovely blue sky. lots of cloud tufts still. but at least there were shadows outdoors.

so at a whim, papa suggested to do something different. we went to ckerok tukun this time for a workout. cherok tukun is in Bukit Mertajam, or thereabouts (sorry as am never clear on boundaries.. of any kind). wanted keh pa and keh mak to join but they had left Kulim for the island with little keh-chi Liz (which resulted promptly in mama touting them as "super boring" and keh pa immediately retorted back a suggestion to go up Bkt Jambul instead haha... next time buddy!).

Cherok Tukun turned out to be surprisingly fun. we got there at 5mins past 4pm. there were a lot of ppl hiking and cycling plus about 10m long of fruits vendors at the foothill which made up a quirky quaint festive mood to all. And the hike was accompanied by a breathy soothing wind which was quite new for us as we seldom enjoyed a windy hike in this tropic... for obvious reason. we credited the airiness of the trek to the foothill waterfall, whether true or not is another matter which we didn't bother to confirm.

mama and papa decided to turn back after reaching the first stop. don't know if that was the midpoint but it was getting to 5pm and we wanted to get back down and buy some fruits and be at ah ma and kong-kong's for a shower before dinner. and lo and behold, another wonderful surprise. the fruits were so much cheaper than the ones at gurney cold storage, or even from QMall JJ. and my... does the mango smell delicious!! mama got us cut juicy papaya and half a dozen of whole papayas at the furthest stall and moved down to grab half kg of fresh nangka and half a dozen or so mangoes before bundling into the car to our well-earned showers :) great workout in all!!

new letter toys for Us :)

finally mama couldnt resist it and bought US a BANANAGRAMS! it's Scrabble in a new packaging, which mama has to say is funkier and in mama's favourite bright banana yellow :) says here for 7-79yo. oh well nvm, we'll love the yellow itself and will end up manhandling it in your newborn babycot before too soon haha! told papa he's not to play with it, and have stored this away in your cupboard (which is getting to overflowing baby!).

back to workouts

mama & papa have gone back to our weekly hikings :) it's a good way to keep in shape, and it's one of our few fav weekend activities anyway. we are joining a friend tomorrow morning to hike up Pg Hill, mama's most fav hiking place yahoo!!

goodbye Cavite

mama said goodbye to the last of mama's colleagues in CV yesterday...

how to be the Best parent

no doubt this is an every-second question for every parent. and even though i am not yet, i have been wondering how would i know which feeding bottle is the best, what milk formula to use, what first solid food to try, which diaper brand is the best... and even now... what food should both of us take to prep for the best conceiving environment for our precious baby?

how would we know what we are doing is really the best for our little one?

i feel somehow assured when reading this blog from mumzzy and the comments... but I still can't help feeling helpless. i think everyone has their own beliefs and values. and i suppose ultimately giving psychological and emotional support is the best course when baby grows up into an independent person.

i pray that i will know what to do when the time comes.

booooooooored

mama's in a rut now. last wk at work was very hectic and had to attend to many adhoc matters until no time to close mama's regular benchmarks. Now mama's trying to catch up, and not too happy about doing it over the weekend as mama'd prefer to clean up a few new photo albums from last few wks of travels. argh... you know if you were here, mama'd not think twice and chuck the work aside. haizzzzzzzzzz!

Consultation sem Oct 2009

here goes... mama and papa have decided to forge ahead with the next phase of our DBA studies. We got till end of this year to write up a 50-minimum-pager report on a Business area from our line of work. writing such kind of report is nothing new, but this is the first time where we will not be guided in class.

It feels like a free-fall and at the same time exhilirating to know we are allowed to manage our own time :) wish us luck baby!

to feel or NOT to feel

you know you are getting to be an emotional wreck when you shed a tear for even hearing that a dog got knocked over by a car. maybe mama is getting old, or that this is just one side of mama that just blossomed from somewhere. mama used to be able to grin through a movie that left everyone else hiccuping into their kerchiefs. now mama will be the first to cry a river!

and not just movies, books are another one of mama's favourite toy that mama is getting more careful of. of the emotional roller-coaster that they offer, i mean. but then when once mama loved adventure and horror stories (from little girls' enid blyton, famous five, nancy drew and hardy boys... to matured's clive cussler, michael crichton, greg iles, robin cook and amy rice), now mama aches for more realistic-sometimes-non-fictional stories that are at once delicious, heartwarming and sometimes heart-tuggingly teary. currently mama is entrenched in tash aw's the harmony silk factory part 2 where the narrator is the woman snow. the prose is definitely of the yin female... thoughtful, dark, gloomy. when things get too heavy, mama stuffs on bananas haha! for papa's sake at least :)

ops! almost 8pm!! gosh i forgot today starts the new amazing race. gtg!! ttyl smoooch!

i found IT!!

yayy yayy yayy!! I finally found what I want to do for my DBA Consultation :) yahooo! hmm i will keep it to myself for now until I complete the 50-pager by end this yr... in case I jinx it :p

sometimes I can almost feel You...

itching for a Seaside getaway!

so here's the plan. Next Mon and Tue are Raya holidays, and the weekend after is our last short sem break before we start on our next DBA "adventure" phuh phuh! we will be spending this weekend in Kuantan (unfortunately no more AFFORDABLE rooms at Hyatt - which is like... why is it the ONLY hotel by the Cempedak seaside???? oh well nvm, we got a good rate at Vistana which looking at the hotel website map, it's by Jalan Sisek which is supposed to lead directly to Teluk Cempedak... so if there is no tall trees and buildings in front of my going-to-battle-it-out-for high floor-room facing Cempedak, mama should still be able to enjoy my Kuantan sunrise in my room with a cuppa, right right??). A distant relative of papa's getting married this Sunday (and same time mama's fav cousin is also getting married in a Melbourne garden wedding swoooooon).

...then.. then?? we'll be back home on Mon. So 2 days back we started getting all sorts of crazy idea to hop into another short no-brainer trip (and mama really mean it, like mama wants even my drinks taken care of no joke!). First was... hey how about shooting to Taman Negara after the wedding. Complication. People sharing our car can't go. Oh HK!! No.. boring. Been there done that this same season. Bali?? No fun just 2 persons. Langkawi... come on! Cameron... yikes again??? Genting... and do what? Oh how about this... Singapore! ..nah concrete jungle no thanks. we finally found out what was itching us... we miss sunny seaside (sounds funny since we are living in a freaking island ourselves!)... but you know what? we just want to go to a hip seaside like Krabi or Koh Samui.

We are hoping Beautiful Planet can arrange a special trip for us to Samui, and let us know fast. Like tomorrow. We miss the old times of starting a trip at 3 in the morning and drooling for 10 hours in a minivan bumping from one town to another country (so evidently, flying will be our last option. just zaps the fun out of traveling huh!)... big BIG hoping BP can swing it :)

rowan trees and beliefs

Company of Liars, p379-380: "I followed her, but my footsteps faltered as I drew near the rowan tree and saw... Dozens of dried foetuses dangled in the breeze - lambs', calves' and human babies'... As if she could see what I was staring at, the woman spoke...'These past years, more and more women have miscarried. Cattle and sheep are losing their offspring too. Evil spirits enter the womb and the woman becomes pregnant, but these offspring are born before their time. If their bodies are buried, the spirits are set free to enter the womb over and over again, preventing the woman from carrying a human child.'" by Karen Maitland (2008)

...hmm, interesting...

back to School...

...and there i was happily ambling along in my 2-mth break... working till i sprain my fingers, lapping up novels into the wee hours (and realized shoot, i have less than 3hrs before i gotta go back to work groooaann!!).. strutting into property fairs and showrooms and show houses and show units like we were really planning to buy (which we almost did in one crazy second)... asking to test drive the Accord, Camry, CRV acting so real we almost kidded ourselves along with the toooo-friendly salesman... going up to Gurney and QMall GCS counters at all hours of the weekends until we forgot which day and what time the tickets were for... shooting up Cameron, flying to visit friends in Vientiane and said yes, we are going to Kuantan for a relative's wedding (whom we wouldn't even recognize if they bumped into us at the roadside) in a blink... oh glorious glorious glorious holidays....

zzeeeaaaaaaaaaaappp!!

Got a mail 3 days ago to get our supervisor and proposal ready for Oct 3.

my Faces of Cameron

almost everyone's favorite haunt... Cameron Highlands. This yr alone been there the second time. Only 3-4hrs drive from Penang to Brinchang. This time stayed at Srawberry Park Resort at ~50% discounted rate (Ramadhan promo yayy!) for 2 nights while Seku and family joined us on Sat and stayed the night at the nearby Titiwangsa Hotel.

we did our usual outings there (breakfast at Sg Palas Tea Plantation what else! hha) but also tried out new stuffs like checking out hotels that we have never stayed before (and shortlisted Parkland and Titiwangsa as target places to stay in our next trip), eating at new restaurants - plus durian and langsat desserts by the roadside (yumm!), visiting Mr Lee and co's organic farm, taking the others through the interesting Time Tunnel (and Ivy packed 30 strawberry ice-cream sticks back for her nanny :p ) ...and best for mama and papa, a brand new visit to Kea Farm's Rose Garden (totally fell in love with the place!) and Bharat's Tea Plantation on the way back.

Awesome wkend trip and company! ...21-23 Aug09

memorable couple of days with old friends

mama and papa took 2 days off work this week to meet up with some old old friends back from undergrad days... oh actually from pre-U days!! everyone's gone fatter, balder, wrinkler... but in our hearts nothing actually changed. we went exploring in town, laughed and mused old times over lunch, dinner, supper then breakfast, fought over who should be paying when and where - and then cheated lol... and best of all, mama and papa got to celebrate birthday for one of them with his whole big family in their old big home :) we had such a wonderful time. all of them have kids already - except a sister who's a year younger than us and still proudly single - and everyone brought something till we ended up with 3 cakes and 105 candles hahah! we also got to join them in their family Fri short prayers - which was quite interesting and touching in the fact they they embraced us in it and never made us feel awkward in any way... we parted yesterday with promises to visit each other again and probably plan for a trip to Bali together all rolicking and noisy in a van... imagine! now that'd be totally fun :)

the day we made a BIG decision

hey baby... you must be tired of the loooooooooooong journey home huh? don't worry, mama and papa today have made a big decision to try help us all speed things up... we hope to see you next yr, my baby Tiger :) Amen.

scary Influenza A(H1N1)

...it's the worst influenza season mama's known so far (in mama's lifetime and not counting equally deadly plagues of past). started as some abnormal cold symptoms in Mexico earlier this yr and within a few mths, it's become a pandemic now. most everyone is afraid to be in the public. 1 sneeze and everyone flees. and most everyone's caught the cold. mama's got the cold about a mth ago but confirmed in clinic that it was not the H1N1, instead was common flu and cough. but sure took the longest time to recover.

hhhztchu!!! geez... there goes. just jinxed it shxt.

here here... sending YOU shortwaves!

now this is quite wierd... past few wks, it's happened 3x. I would be caught up with a sudden thought of a dear friend and would remind myself to send a note to that person. But before i actually did later, a mail from that person had landed in my mailbox! it's definitely a pleasant surprise, though can't help feelig wierd. these were friends that we had not contacted each other for ages (and one of them was my very dear old friend whom we lost touch after Form 6... erm 16 yrs ago!)

well no matter what... this is what friends are for, being there ALWAYS!! :p

yip yip hooray!!!

life-saving buoys!

...as usual when I go idle even for a second, or as of now too hungry to think of anything else, I start thinking of a thousand ways to get a baby. Massage, heaping on organic foods, more sleep, less sleep, some workout, no workout, positive thinking, yoga, or being nonchalant about it... of course IVF (and here I go imagining myself wagging my finger to my OB&GY absolutely no twins or triplets or etc in the plural!) and even the idea of a surrogate, and adoption. And then feeling like a complete failure and an incomplete person all at once.

Then yesterday received a mail from an old friend married overseas now, and she is expecting no 2 end this mth. She was much more a workaholic than me so it was totally a surprise when she told me she's stopped working for some time to take care of her babies... and found out another colleague who had trouble conceiving has just delivered a 3rd. Just in time to buoy me old woman :D

Someone by Jacob once told me, God put ppl in your life for a reason. Sometimes I just can't beat this... thanks all my dear encouraging friends, fams... love mmuak!

shopping for Nephew...

...today marked the first day that mama shopped baby stuffs for Ting ku-ku (though ah ma and ah kong paid the bills heh heh). Mama and papa miss you.

down memory lane... Endau Rompin

...now the next winner of the DML series is our 2004 Endau Rompin trip weee! :)Organizd by a dear friend Auntie SK. We got ourselves south to Endau Rompin park in Johor at night by a chartered semi-size bus (mama think there was like 25 participants in all departing from Pg). Keh Pa and Keh Ma, auntie Sarah, Uncle Ong and Uncle PC bumped along with us in the bus all chatty and excited before dropping pomptly unconscious zzzzz in our seats after an hr :) ...it was after work time after all...

This trip saw Keh Ma, Keh Pa, Uncle PC and mama lost from the group for almost 2hrs in the jungle - becuase we were too busy stopping here and there and everywhere taking pictures of 1-cm bugs on trees, leaves... boot prints. And papa got into such a frenzy worrying that we just lost our heads when we finally - and miraculously - were spotted and returned back to the main group. As normal when mama and papa lost our heads, we yelled at each other for 5mins spewing all the worst language ever (from mama mostly shy shy) and then we'd smooch and be lovey-dovey the next 5mins.

The trip saw everyone struggling for hours hiking to Buaya Sangkut the first camp morning. Mama has to say the destination was not much for the effort (and mama's camera ran out of batt after 3 pics there arghh!). But the ensuing river swimming made it all worthwhile :):)

The trip saw mama and papa losing our heads again when mama slipped and fell at a curious site of round water-filled holes with many many slippery rocky footpaths. Fortunately nothing broken - A80 was saved in exchange for a pretty painful gash on mama's elbow - or rushed into the waterfalls... phew!

Best of all the trip gave us a very fun and relaxing canoeing downriver back to our hostel on the 2nd day. As usual, the Famous 4 (wink wink) shared a canoe and we thoroughly enjoyed our lazy downriver ride amidst the beautiful mist-covered sceneries all around.

..hmmm thinking back, it was sure a memorable adventure (albeit a soft one, nothing like scaling Gg Tahan thingy). See papa below... all smiles walking back from a visit to an orang asli village... ah! We want to go back there and to the canoeing especially (and minus the being lost part)... join us baby!

the Monkey & the Mirror

hey baby, want to share this interesting little story...

"Once upon a time, there was a monkey who found a mirror. 'Oh,' she said very quietly to her dear friend, 'what a horrible face. Her grimaces! Her wrinkles! I would die of misery if I looked even a little bit like that! But I have to admit I have some friends, I can count them on my fingers, they do look like her.' Then her friend the bear answered, 'Instead of looking at others, look at yourself.'" (Schaeffer, 1974 - in the novel called Anya).

Such is human nature... mama always believe in being true to yourself and with whatever it is, love what God give you... remember that ya.

down memory lane... Ko Ngai

Ko Ngai was our first island chillout in Thailand. Before reaching 30, mama had this wild desire to go somewhere and do something new EVERY month. And so mama and papa hopped on every weekend tour that we could grab - cheap and fast and hassle-free type - every month. Not much planning, just be ready to pack up and go when a trip was on :) Oh those wonderful carefree days haha!

...and this is also where mama and papa met up with keh mak & keh pa MW, and Auntie Sarah and Uncle Ong (all young and wrinkle-free!) for the first time. We had the most fun. First time snorkeling... huddling together at night swapping stories and watching shooting stars... sleeping in little cosy detached huts... dinner under the stars (and totally not knowing what we put into our mouths in the dark)... Ko Ngai was undisputedly one of our best wkend getaways!

can you recognize anyone here?? :)

blink blink!!

streeeeeeeeeeeeeetch!! What a GOOD morning today. I was so beat up after 3-days of FTF earlier this wk, we ended it yesterday. And I just crashed on the bed slightly after 9pm (vs normal lights out at midnight) and didnt wake up until 7.15am today. Hmmmm... what a wonderful sleep and rest. Now feeling fresh and all ready for these next 2 days of work before we break off for the weekend. Sean also keeps reminding me to take more rest (including himself) to keep healthy - and get over this irriating cough... blink blink wide awake now haha. What a good feeling!

confusing Spinach

MYTH: Spinach is a good source of iron.

Dr Adesman (2009): reality is spinach is an excellent source of vits A and E as well as several important antioxidants along with beta-carotene, BUT iron is NOT one of them.

Eh? What To Expect When You Are Expecting recommends spinach for iron (and green leafy). Ok well... I don't mind eating spinach, kind of like them so whatever. As long as cooked, no problem-o.

someone moved the Banana

Mama went to Qmall JJ after work looking for mama's fav banana and... it's GONE!!! No more Dale banana but floppy, black-spotted, unhealthy-looking Exotic bananas... wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! So papa just got chewed because mama's "kin beh tiok liao" ... sighhhhh (well, it's been a loooooooooooong day at work too).

mama's Treasure Trove

Ah Ma told mama once that when mama was a tiny 1yo, they put mama in front of many things to see what would mama choose. According to old tales, the item that the baby chooses can tell her future. So it went by that Ah Ma said mama went for first a book, and then ang-ku :) Well mama don't know about the origin of the old tales (it should be obvious that babies will always grab what atracts them) but mama has grown to show a great love of books and ang-ku :)

When in school up to the first degree, mama used to haunt the campus libraries until mama was quite famous with the librarians. Mama still remembers when in USM for mama's first degree, one of the librarians even got to know mama's then-favorite author (Walberg and oh was he an amusing witty story-teller of the policemen, and he used to be one himself) and he used to save the author's books for mama and would call mama to the counter when mama burst through the doors! (Ah Ma and Kong2 must be aghast if they find this out... imagine forking out mama's tuition fees never a day late and to find now mama chasing after novels instead of text books in the libraries! No wonder mama is taking such a long time to finish school!)

Well then mama did not have much space to stock up on mama's favorite reading materials (novels, non-fictions, travelogues), and much less budget. Now though mama (and papa) has turned our little 3rd room into a cosy little library. Not surprisingly papa stocks up with his boooooooring text books and all those magazines and books with serious titles (blah). Mama on the other hand... (wink wink) is stocking up with all that mama's started collecting. Used to be from Novel House (Pg & Ipoh) and then now mostly from MPH, Borders... and a couple of times from amazon.com.

..oh mama's taste is not consistent, though mama is hopeless when it comes to adventure, mischief, the unexplainable, horror, humor, humorous travelogues, humorous self-defacing-but-wonderful life experience... and those witty-opinionated-honest-to-God books (ok so that's pretty much everything that qualifies on the novel stands).

...there is Stephen King (or used to be for mama, outgrown his work). Mama pretty much grew up with Hardy Boys (Nancy Drew's adventures too tame). And slightly before that was glued to Enid Blyton's. Especially her Faraway Tree and Wishing Chair tales!! Mama's shelves have the honor of Amy Tan, James Harriot and Conn Igulden with a whif or two of the esteemed Michael Crichton and John Grisham. Among those that stood out is A Thousand Splendid Sun by Khaled Hosseini that mama chewed endlessly on during a lazy trip to Hong Kong. And the motivating brave tale of Greg Mortenson building his schools in Pakistan in Three Cups of Tea. The ones that mama holds very dear at heart (and made mama's eyes all swollen up in the morning)... Tuesdays with Morrie (Mitch Albom), Marley & Me (John Grogan)... and the magical A Teardrop on the Cheek of Time by Diana and Michael Preston (and coincidentally mama read it just a month before mama's unplanned biz trip to India! So imagine! Mama was virtually walking through the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, the Red Fort with the ghosts from the book so close by that the hair at the back of mama's neck almost got a stroke from sticking out if not for mama's trip being - (un)fortunately - short). And the ones that made mama cackled crazily at 3am: Peeing in the Bush (Adeline Loh), Upcountry (Graham McEune)... Do Bats Have Bollocks (Butler & Vincent)... and mama's still best friend in times when mama should be medicated - Growing up in Trengganu by Awang Goneng and Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard by Kiran Desai.

Note: Clive Cussler is another adventure author that mama loves to grab if mama has only 2 days and zero emotional-gravity to read, but sadly mama cannot line him up here now as mama has - and is guilty of - not stocking up with his books.

So you see why mama is still studying? :)

why MEN are never depressed

thanks to VC for the contribution, came in time to cheer up a rather bleak day... mmuah!!

Men Are Just Happier People
Your last name stays put.
The garage is all yours.
Wedding plans take care of themselves.
Chocolate is just another snack.
You can never be pregnant.
Car mechanics tell you the truth.
The world is your urinal.
You never have to drive to another petrol station restroom because this one is just too icky.
You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt.
Same work, more pay.
Wrinkles add character.
People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them.
New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet.
One mood all the time.
Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.
You know stuff about tanks and engines.
A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase.
You can open all your own jars.
You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness.
Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack. Three pairs of shoes are more than enough.
You never have strap problems in public.
You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.
Everything on your face stays its original colour.
The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades.
You only have to shave your face and neck.
You can play with toys all your life.
One wallet and one pair of shoes -- one colour for all seasons.
You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look.
You can "do" your nails with a pocket knife.
You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache.
You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in 25 minutes.
No wonder men are happier.

Durians!

mama got durians for dinner tonight wowie!! mama has been feeling pretty down these past few days... long day at work, tension at night feeling too tired to study, exam this sat... many other things maybe... so this is a pleasant surprise from papa :)

durians durians... king of fruits! our fav are ganja, lipan, ang-hair... and recently tried 11 and one more unpronounceable from the purple house in sg pinang and like them too! well these papa said he got them from relau called d15. ok la so it is not the descendent of balik pulau's famous trees but still durians and oh my, do they smell NICE :)

well mama and papa both took a day off work tomorrow to revise for our exam. mama will go have dinner now - durian rice dinner - then will take a short nap and hopefully can morph into a pretty obedient bookworm soon soon!!

little pretty bird came back

one of the 2 pretty birds came back for a couple of minutes this morning :) landed on the fu-kui hua branch and fluttered its wings and looked around...

"little bird, are you looking for a new place to nest? well you are most welcomed here" :)

hopelessly addicted to bananas!

ok this is wierd... I am so craving for bananas. Says Dr Cooper in Johnson's Mother & Baby (2003): bananas are rich in vit B6 and will help prevent blood-sugar levels from dropping. either i am on a wierd hormonal imbalance (not wierd) or my blood-sugar is low. ok i got for suspect no 1.

the century's longest solar eclipse today

little bird... what are you looking for?

Today marked the passing of the century's longest solar eclipse. It was supposed to be a half eclipse for us in Malaysia between 8.30ish to 9.45 in the morning. Mama noticed it was darker than normal but the effect wasn't as big as mama expected. News said effect was diluted partly due to haze. Though today was cooler than normal. It was at only 27C at 6.30pm. When normally it would hit around 32-34C.

This little pretty bird and its partner shared the eclipse with mama outside on the balcony. they were chirping loudly away and hopping here and there between the 2 fu-kui hua and flying this way and that. But soon as mama whipped out 350D, they flew off as if they could sense mama was not playing fair on the other side of the black tinted glass :) well they sure were making a lot of noise while mama was trying to concentrate in another bla-bla-bla meeting just 15 feet away. Well mama just managed to snag this one shot before they flew off...

when you are feeling down...

....feast on bananas! at least it works for me :):)

anyway banana is a good nutritious fruit and has similar calming effect as chocs do (us females will totally understand this) minus the caffeine. one time attending in-house training in Intel-U, I was curious why there were bunches of bananas in the middle of the tables for us (instead of the usual bowl of sweets) and then the trainer told me how much more nutritious (and calming) bananas can have on ppl. and it's absolutely true. plus imagine easy to eat if i need a quick lunch fix, and fibrous so something i can also be thankful for personally :)

so i am now officially a banana fan! my fav is the one by Dale sold in JJ, Qmall... yummy!

a dear friend

how exciting! mama got in touch with a very VERY dear old friend since past couple of days. we met in Form Six in KB Chung Hwa and became fast friends in 3 mins (ok so maybe mama is exaggerating a bit here). he found me in Facebook... and here we are. mama can't wait to be over with this weekend exam then may persuade papa to take a lazy drive down to KL and meet up with some friends among whom this VERY dear friend will be on the top of the list. i'll share pics with him when we meet... gosh it's been 16 years since we parted ways. but when we started emailing with each other, it was like we never separated before. he was so much more a dear bro to me than Ting ku-ku was at that time. we spent so much time together in class, after class and just when mama needed someone to talk to. never knew how much mama missed him until we got back in touch here.

mama is just so HAPPY :)

be Patient

Mama be patient... stop being so excited, anxious and paranoid, you are making me excited, anxious and paranoid. I'll get there when I get there... love Baby.

Facebook

I am so locked out of my Facebook account. I think it's because I changed my email contact. Hmm... already close to a week since I got back to The Facebook Team to help me troubleshoot and gain back my access. Well... guess I will just recreate my account if bo-kiu.

The Alchemist... restart

Second time trying to enjoy The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Just don't dig this book. It's said to have changed millions of lives. I just don't dig it. Putting it back on the shelf...

what a Weekend!

close to 20 solid hours of book chewing and 1 quiz... TODAY 19 JULY marks our last Class Day in our UUM DBA program!!! 5.5 more days to the exam... and then we can plan for a rewarding breakaway :):):)

Counting down...

It's 3 days and counting... am at Borders Starbucks now. Need to chill out. Never a patient person. Always want to get what I want YESTERDAY. Feeling unbalanced. Unsure. Insecured. I think some of this rubbed off telepahically to my folks, they decided to not overnight here to catch their flight out tomorrow morning, will use a cab from BM instead and pay rm140. I dont know if I said anything wrong. But then I have been a bit unstable emotionally since 2 days back.

Did a urine test 2 days back and was negative. Wham! Big low. I sat at the bathroom step and willed the strip to show the second line. I read the instruction paper backward. Then only I saw that the test (even though at the box said could test anytime of the day even before period is due) would work only 3days before period is due. Wham! Not so low.

But now it's 3days and counting. I found myself not daring to do the urine test.

I tell myself it takes time. Let it be. I bought a packet of soil for my 2 fu-kui hua on the balcony last weekend and within 2 days, so many new shoots showed up with their appreciation. I take comfort in that... at least it proves I know a little about nurturing life...

it's all about Priority

Another crazy day at work, endless meetings over lunch time. Well I need to eat and keep myself healthy. Sean is great, he bought me lunch pack and had lunch with me (or rather across the table from me while I went tap-tapping away on IM over a bla-bla-bla meeting). He's left for work again and now well, I have decided to take a 30min break to eat my lunch pack (and I will not peek at my mailbox and will not respond to any IM!).

Baby Tease

Mama worked from home today and soon after the clock bonggg 6pm, mama shot off to Sun-Dry for the 350D and to Baby wardrobe for some more items and threw them all haphazardly on the bed. Actually today at work has been a L-O-N-G day (but am not gonna complain as papa pulls an easy 16 hours-5days a week, and not counting weekends) so mama was pretty deflated by then. And then the thought of studying for a quiz this Sat and exam next Sat... sob! So... ESCAPADE again :) ...needless to say mama is now 3 chapters behind schedule yikes!! Well don't worry, mama always manages to cook up something at the 11th hour, just watch (but don't follow)!

argh exam exam!!!

I just can't focus on my books for this weekend quiz!! And I am gonna flunk it if I don't wise up soon. Grrrrr!

music pow wow

MYTH: Playing Mozart or other classical music for your baby will make her smarter (Dr Adesman, 2009)

...this should be interesting (not to mention I might get this blog phished in 5secs). Dr Adesman in his book Babyfacts said that the positive result of a research done on college students at the University of California in Irvine in 1993 who performed better on a spatial relationships test after listening to Mozart sonata could not be duplicated (like unsuccessfully tried by researchers at Appalachian State University), and also that the UC Irvine study focused on college students and the effect lasted only 15 mins. In fact the lead researcher of the UC Irvine study said that the results were never meant to imply that classical music would make babies smarter or cure health ailments.

er... mama got you a Baby Einstein CD (just ONE) and being so darn proud to be such a smart proactive mama at that time (just a 1/2 sec passing pride!)... well you are allowed to kick me (only from within) if you don't like it.

the Golden Gate from Battery Spencer, summer 2005

Papa had a temporary assignment in Newark, Ca in 2005. Mama managed to spend a couple of months there with papa, it was a gorgeous time. We both loved San Fransisco to bits, and we used to drive the 20mins to the city every wkend (never miss!). Mama still remember crying goodbye to SFO on mama's last trip there before mama had to fly off for mama's own temporary assignment in Costa Rica. Papa stayed behind in Ca, and the next time we met was about 2 months later for our wedding ceremony back home... well that's another story :)

handsome Papa :)

summer 2005: Lombard Street, Ca

Papa hitting the books on a Holiday

Here is papa studying hard for his DBA Finance and Accounting quiz this weekend and exam next weekend... Papa is always the more serious of us 2 (well just look at him, and on a holiday!)... where is mama??

Goofing off here with Keh Mak and Auntie Ju Lee :):)

pop here I go again!

mama woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. papa went off to play tennis at 7am and at first mama woke up feeling excited (why? because today Monday 7/13 is a holiday!) but then didnt know what happened really, mama just got irritated with everything... and before long mama began bullying papa... poor papa! maybe due to PMS, or simply mama's just a crazier Geminian... mama is actually worried that if and when mama got pregnant, mama's temper would be worse and that won't be good for BOTH our health (not to mention papa trying to be as understandable as ever, as always! :) ) well let's worry about that when we get there.

To hike or not to hike?

hey Baby... mama just found from many sites that preggies can still go hiking :):) ...well mama's not with you yet now but have been taking extra-precautionary steps just in case you decided to come unannounced :) Mama's fav hiking place is to Kerachut (can't wait to bring you there!). Oooh... goodie, mama will plan for another trip to Kerachut soon soon!

What's in a Toy?

According to Babyfacts by Dr Adesman (2009), there's no evidence that a particular toy will make your baby smarter.

Myth: Your baby needs sophisticated toys for maximum brain stimulation.

Recommended 5 affordable baby toys:
1. A kid-safe plastic mirror - babies find their reflections (and other people's) endlessly amusing :)
2. Small, easy-to-grasp rattles
3. Interlocking plastic rings - those that conveniently hook onto strollers for easy assess to babies. Babies seem to love holding them and waving them around, and of course, the rings are made to be mouthed (now this is funny but mama has seen this happened with Liz chi-chi everytime and it's so terribly cute!).
4. Toys that squeak, rattle, doesn't roll, and can be attached to almost anything. Example.
5. The box. Yes! it's the cheapest and most kid-cliche thrill of all, but at a certain point babies will be more interested in the box that the toy came in. Watch out for sharp ages, staples, tape, or Styrofoam "peanuts".

Water water water for Baby!

ok mama has a weakness in daily fluid intake even by normal standards. "What to Expect when you are Expecting (pg 92)" though says this:

(when pregnant) You're not only eating for two, but you're drinking for two. If you've always been one of those people who go through the day with barely a sip of anything (erm... like mama!), now's the time to change (and you can almost imagine the authors wagging a finger here... ok I hear you)... Extra fluids also help keep your skin soft, lessen the likelihood of constipation, rid your body of toxins and waste products, and reduce excessive swelling and the risk of urinary tract infection (ouch!). Be sure to get AT LEAST 8 CUPS (2 quarts... what's that??) A DAY... Not all your fluids have to come from the tap (American language for plain water duh). You can count on milk (2/3 water), fruit and vegetable juices, soups, caffeine- and sugar-free soft drinks (limit this though!), decaffeinated coffee or tea (hot or iced), and bottled plain and sparkling waters. Do NOT overdo on high-calorie fluids (e.g. juices), however, or you may end up gaining too much weight. Also try NOT to drink before eating because this may make you too full to consume nutritious solids.

ok la... mama has been practising to increase fluid intakes, I think I reach 3 cups now. Ganbatte!! :)

baby Wardrobe in the making

little one ...which one do you like the most? won't you come try some on? ...love, mama&papa

my Prayers for you...

"Let the little children come to me... for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" Matthew 19:14

"And she (Hannah) made a vow, saying "O Lord Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant's misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life..." 1 Samuel 1:11

Lord Let Me Walk with You Lord let me walk with You Although my steps are small Stay beside, hold my hands And never let me fall. Amen

Will you come play with us?

...Tigger, Eeyore, Ann-Coe, Bagheera & Winnie-the-Pooh

Note: Winnie was mama's first gift from papa way back in 1999... and so as with all beginnings, we shall start with the family of Pooh :)
